Oreo the Benefits of Using Social Media P3
Social media has grown so much in recent years, and will have an estimate of “2.95 billion uses in 2020” (Statista). This information is perfect for business getting there name out there, It makes it so much easier for business to be spread across a community. And due to technology we can track what kind of products people are interested in. So with personalized ads the higher the chance someone will click it and the faster business will spread.


Oreo is a well know brand, and has so much hype, and all over a basic biscuit. This is mainly due to the advertising that surrounds it. What makes this advertising so appealing to people is the creativeness and fascination that people can do so much with a simple Oreo.

Above is 4 examples of how Oreo spread awareness across Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. Image one is Gay pride and their attempt at showing their support and spreading the message. Image two is to congratulate the Japanese panda Shin-Shin giving birth. The third image is to celebrate the mars rover landing , and showing NASA respect. The fourth example is Oreo celebrating Elvis week.

Oreo for its 100th anniversary, came up with a genesis idea. What they would do is do some research for what people were talking about daily and come up with ideas to celebrate these events. They did this for 100 days to attempt to make a very old cookie seem young again, and it worked. Posting it acros 3 big platforms of social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest ), and growing rapidly in sohal media followers, Oreo managed to even get publicity on multiple TV shows. The 1st one to be released was for Gay pride on June 25 to October 2, 2012.


But what's in it for Oreo? Well with fun, socially relevant and up to date posts it makes it a lot more attractive to people, even people who don't like Oreo. There is something there for all. So with such an appealing page it makes it more likely that it will get a like/ follow spike; every time they post. During the event Oreo managed to achieve 210% shares on Facebook.
So this gives them free advertising to appear on your feed; also they can earn money from Facebook when these posts go viral.

Oreo advertising through media started in 2013, and ever since they have had so many popular ads that have spread across multiple media platforms. all because there content is up to date and reverent to recent events.

Oreo have even tried gamification and it got extremely popular with there mobile game "OREO: Twist, Lick, Dunk". Which has 1,000,000 - 5,000,000 installs on android alone, and mostly positive reviews.
